TRACEABILITY
Quebec has high-level expertise in food safety and hygiene. Its traceability system allows the agri-food sector to benefit from an effective management tool and maintain its reputation by providing quality agricultural products.
With this in mind, Unité d’Intervention Hexagone aims to submit its business model to Attestra, an organization affiliated with MAPAQ, to integrate the beekeeping sector and modernize current regulations regarding the obligation for operators to comply with provincial legislation governing the identification of certain animals and traceability.

The benefits
Traceability is the ability to track the movement of a product or group of products, whether animals, plants, food products, or ingredients, from one point in the supply chain to another, both upstream and downstream. Animal traceability systems are based on three fundamental elements: the identification of animals, the identification of the sites where the animals are located, and the tracking of animal movements.
The primary goal of a traceability system is to ensure health surveillance to protect human health, animal health, and food safety. By enabling the rapid detection of a health issue at its source and ensuring prompt and effective intervention, the traceability system limits economic and social impacts and preserves the value of livestock.
